Some 50,000 people attended the weekend event last year

Leeds City Council's licensing panel cleared the way for the music event after considering an application from the festival organisers.

Mean Fiddler moved the event to the privately-owned estate last year after violence marred previous festivals held at Temple Newsam in Leeds.

Councillors were told few problems had arisen at the 2003 festival.

However, members of the panel rejected a plan by Mean Fiddler to increase the attendance limit from 50,000 to 55,000.

Instead, councillors granted permission for just an extra 2,500 tickets.

Councillor Jack Dunn, the chair of the panel, said: "We were encouraged by the success of last year's event but are erring on the side of caution and granting 2,500 extra places."

The festival will be held from 27 to 29 August.
