Birmingham's speedway team will be allowed to continue using their home stadium for another year, despite complaints from nearby residents.

The Birmingham Brummies' three-year permission to race at the Perry Bar track was due to expire next month.

However, city councillors granted an extra year's licence and told the club to fit silencers on its bikes to cut down on noise during meetings.

Council officers had recommended not renewing the licence, saying the noise was having an effect on the health of people living nearby.

Birmingham City University also objected, arguing the noise was affecting students' studies.
