Gondola takes to the city canals
A new craft is weaving its way between the narrow boats and barges on Birmingham's canals.

The gondola, romantic symbol of Venice, is plying its trade up and down the city centre waterways.

The 11 metre-long gondola, which can seat six, is made in the traditional Venetian style from seven different types of wood.

It is the brainchild of Nico Avdia, from the canalside Don Salvo Italian restaurant in the Mailbox development.

He said: "It's very romantic. The gondola is beautiful. It's one of the nicest I've seen.

"It's great if you want to impress, drink champagne and get a lovely kiss at the end of it."
