A "robust" system to tackle soccer violence is to be introduced in a joint initiative between West Midlands Police and six football clubs. Officers say they will be improving the way they target known troublemakers in an effort to keep them away from games.
The sides involved in the scheme are Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Coventry City, Walsall, West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
A new agreement between the clubs and police is being signed on Wednesday.
'Nobody wants them'
Ch Insp Dave Sturman said: "Historically, a lot of information has been shared between police and clubs but there is now a more robust and coherent system which will improve the way we target anyone who goes to football matches to cause trouble.
"West Midlands Police intends to continue to clamp down on the minority of football fans who spoil the enjoyment of the game for the majority of peaceful fans who visit stadiums throughout the region.
"We will do everything we can to catch them and prosecute them.
"Nobody wants them in football, the clubs don't want them, the police don't want them and the genuine supporters don't want them."
