Forces unite for hooligan hunt
Police from across the Midlands are trying to find the football hooligans who caused trouble after a derby match.

West Mercia Police are working closely with colleagues in Staffordshire to identify fans responsible for violence at the recent Telford United and Burton Albion tie.

One Burton fan needed hospital treatment after being attacked by a group of Telford followers after the game at the New Bucks Head on 13 September.

The victim was kicked and punched to the ground and suffered facial injuries in the assault.

There had been no police presence at the game itself and Burton officials have criticised the Shropshire side for failing to provide adequate stewarding at the ground.

Police in Staffordshire have been taking statements from Burton fans to piece together events and identify the attackers.

A West Mercia Police spokeswoman said the investigation was now at a stage where officers expect to make a number of arrests in the very near future.

Telford United have said they will ban anyone found guilty of the alleged assault and are co-operating fully with the police investigation.
