Mr Shaw faces prison if he breaches the order |
A Wolverhampton football hooligan has become the first person in the West Midlands to be banned by police from all matches. Gilroy Shaw agreed to the two year banning order at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
West Midlands Police said the action against Mr Shaw followed years of orchestrated violence at Wolverhampton Wanderers matches.
Last year he appeared in a BBC documentary in which he boasted to the undercover reporter about his exploits and was seen punching one fan to the ground.
The order prohibits Mr Shaw, 35, of Selwyn Road, Bilston, from any football match in the UK, including Wolves games, both home and away.
International ban
It also bans him from following the Wales or England international teams abroad.
Mr Shaw faces arrest and up to six months in prison if he breaches the banning order.
Police said that under the ruling Mr Shaw must also stay away from stadiums and the surrounding area before and after games.
Superintendent Andy Armstrong, operations manager at Bilston Street police station, said after the hearing: "This is the first banning order obtained by West Midlands Police.
"There are several other orders currently being prepared against local hooligans as part of our crackdown against this particular criminal element in the city."
