Pubs and clubs face alcohol blitz
Landlords and pub owners in Newcastle who sell alcohol to underage drinkers are being warned they will be caught.

In recent weeks officers from Northumbria Police visited eight pubs in the city and caught out two which served underage undercover testers.

They are now considering what action to take against licensees and are warning of more crackdowns to come.

They are also advising landlords to ask customers for photo identification.

Ch Insp Dave Jackson said: "There is a good relationship between police and licensees in the city and it is pleasing that the majority of pubs tested so far have not served under-age people.

"Teenagers can look older than they are nowadays and it can be quite difficult for somebody running a bar or pub to know if they are under-age.

"The only way to be sure is to ask for approved identification such as a photo driving licence or passport."
