The Coatham development will include homes and leisure facilities

An estimated 2,000 people visited the town's leisure centre to view proposals for the Coatham Enclosure.

The plans include 250 new homes, a hotel, visitor tower and bingo hall, but some protesters have said green land will be lost in the development.

The exhibition opened on Monday and closes on 25 February.

Council officers and the preferred developer Persimmon Homes are still available to discuss the plans with residents.

Vera Moody, the council's cabinet member for economic development, said: "There has been a lot of positive feedback and lots of issues for us to consider.

"It has been very useful and we are delighted so many people have taken such a keen interest in what we're trying to do to revitalise not only Redcar, but provide a vibrant environment for the whole of our borough."
