Athlete wins Freedom of Borough
The UK's most successful Paralympian, Tanni Grey-Thompson, is to be offered the Freedom of the Borough when she returns from Athens.

The award from Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is in recognition of her sporting achievements, and her contribution to the local community.

Ms Grey-Thompson of Redcar, became one of Britain's top paralympic athletes when she collected her 11th gold medal.

Previous recipients of the honour include former Redcar MP, Mo Mowlem.

The council coalition's three group leaders will formally begin the process at the council's cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

Cllr Steve Abbot said: "Tanni has definitely helped our borough gain recognition through her special talents, and we are all proud of her.

"We know her roots are in Wales, but she has become a real part of Redcar and Cleveland."
