Tanni Grey-Thompson
Paralympic winner Tanni Grey-Thompson is taking part in the run
Around 1,000 runners are preparing for Redcar's 22nd half marathon.

Paralympic gold medal winner Tanni Grey-Thompson will be competing in the wheelchair event, which sets off ahead of the main race.

A prize fund of 1,500 is up for grabs and all runners who finish receive a special T-shirt.

Jane Shearer, events organiser at Redcar and Cleveland Council, said runners from across the region are taking part in the run.

The race starts and finishes at Redcar Leisure Centre.

Last year's winner Loftus Athletic Club's Stephen Hepples will be defending his title.

Ms Shearer said: "There's no doubt it will be cold, but there is always a good atmosphere because family and friends come along to support the runners."
