The marathon supports two charities each year |
The Bristol half marathon is looking for an official charity to raise money for in 2004. Charities with a strong local connection, and based in the Bristol area, are being invited to apply to the city council for the official status.
The race supports two charities each year, both of which are nominated for two years.
In 2004, CLIC (Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood) will be one of the charities to benefit - but there is still a vacancy for another good cause to share in the event.
Race director Georgette van Hoof said: "The BUPA half marathon presents a major fundraising opportunity for local charities.
"For most people the race is an opportunity to take part in an exciting day and achieve a personal goal.
"However, the benefits from participants running for charitable organisations are enormous and this aspect of the race is a priority for us."
In 2002, nearly 100,000 was raised for St Peter's Hospice and The Diabetes Trust through runner sponsorship.
The final amount raised in 2003 is still to be confirmed.
