Touts in forged race tickets scam
Newmarket racecourse
Newmarket is known as the headquarters of Flat racing
Racegoers in Newmarket are being warned to watch out for forged tickets being sold by touts.

About 70 people were stopped at the turnstiles on Friday and forced to pay again because their tickets were fake.

Organisers are worried that people may have already been deceived for the evening fixture on 20 July.

With a complete sell-out in all enclosures, the racecourse is keen to make it clear to racegoers that they should not buy tickets from the touts.

"The forgeries were very good and while we had our suspicions on the first two days, by lunchtime on Friday we knew what we were looking for and all badges were carefully checked," said Newmarket Racecourses' managing director Lisa Hancock.

"It's incredibly frustrating that the police are powerless to move touts on.

"Some of our security staff had to take a lot of abuse from one or two of the touts."
