A landowner from Suffolk is defying his local council again by trying to save his clifftop home from the sea. Peter Boggis, 73, was ordered to stop his do-it-yourself defences at Easton Bavents, last May.
But the retired engineer is again trying to shore up crumbling cliffs on land owned by his family for a century.
The work has set up a fresh clash with Waveney District Council, where officers are concerned at the knock-on effects of his efforts.
Mr Boggis estimates the work is costing him �500,000.
"What will be lost is not only Easton Bavents and the properties there but the adjacent areas such as Southwold will become undefendable," he said. His battle against the sea has been an uphill struggle, but it is his efforts to rebuild what has been lost that have upset the authorities.
Council spokesman Martin Plane said they were most concerned about was Mr Boggis's plans to extend his defence work.
"He plans to extend those defences up to two kilometres to the north which could have very serious consequences for the coastline as a whole," Mr Plane said.
A determined Mr Boggis is pressing on with his efforts.
"This country is not infinite and the negligence which has occurred to these areas is absolutely disastrous," he said.
