Planners are set to take action to stop a retired engineer in his personal battle against coastal erosion. Peter Boggis, 72, has been dumping thousands of tons of soil at Easton Bavents, near Southwold, to try to keep back the sea.
But Waveney District Council officers are concerned that his action may be damaging the environment.
On Wednesday night, officers will ask Waveney councillors to authorise an enforcement notice to stop Mr Boggis doing any further work.
Work costs �50,000
A spokesman for the council said complaints had been received about the work.
"Once the work has stopped it will then be up to Mr Boggis to apply for planning permission to continue the work and he will have to produce an environmental assessment," he said.
Mr Boggis lives 100 yards from a cliff which has rapidly eroded.
Mr Boggis is underwriting the work - which he says will safeguard 10 properties and Southwold itself - at a cost of more than �50,000.
The first stage of the project involves bringing in 24,000 tons of clay to shore up the beach.
