Cheaper hospital needs approval
North Staffordshire Hospital
The trust was the first of many in England to announce job cuts
Managers at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire are to ask for urgent talks with government officials over new plans for a hospital.

A cheaper design to that originally proposed was chosen on Monday due to rising costs and a budget deficit.

It chose a plan which would mean fewer new buildings being built with more use of the existing ones instead.

The government now needs to agree the new plan, which is to be funded with private sector money.

Chief executive Antony Sumara said the scaled down version of the hospital will be just as effective as the original design.
