Debt hospital boss to be quizzed

The trust was the first of many in England to announce job cuts
The chief executive of a hospital trust that has announced 1,000 job cuts is facing questions from councillors.

The University Hospital of North Staffordshire Trust in Stoke-on-Trent is making the cuts due to �17m debts.

Antony Sumara will be quizzed by council chiefs about the situation at the City General and Royal Infirmary hospital sites.

Councillors will also discuss with Mr Sumara if some jobs can by saved by moving services into the community.

The North Staffordshire trust was the first of many in England to announce cuts because of huge deficits.
