Beat officers are wearing new computer equipment with built-in cameras in the fight against crime and anti-social behaviour in north Staffordshire. The "headcams" are fitted to a headband underneath an officers' helmet.
The cigar-shaped camera connects to a computer, attached to the officer's belt, with a hard drive and monitor.
The new kit is being used by police officers in Newcastle-under-Lyme, who wear armbands to tell the public they have the equipment on.
Evidence captured on film by the police can be used in court for prosecutions.
Vital evidence
Ten headcams have been bought by the Safer Communities Partnership with �18,000 of government funding.
Insp Jeff Moore, Newcastle police commander, said the cameras had already proved useful.
"One officer in one evening witnessed an assault in the town centre and managed to capture vital evidence on film," he said.
"At a second assault the officer used the camera to gather information on the extent of a victim's injuries."
