Police search for no-belt drivers
Drivers and passengers are being targeted in a police campaign to make sure they are belting up.

Staffordshire officers will be looking for people who are not wearing a seat belt in coming weeks.

The force said officers will look for parents risking their children's safety when driving them to school without being properly restrained.

The Department for Transport believes one in ten drivers and front seat passengers do not wear seatbelts.

And that rises to 40% of back seat passengers not belting up.

Its figures show that in a crash at 30mph, an unrestrained passenger will be thrown forward with a force up to 60 times their bodyweight.

PC Dereck Sharp, North Staffs Safety Co-ordinator, said: "Our aim is to prevent unnecessary loss of life and the misery caused to families by such a loss or by having a family member whose life has been changed following a serious injury road traffic collision."
