Belt campaign nets 600 offenders
A two-week police crackdown on drivers who fail to wear seat belts has netted more than 600 offenders.

Norfolk police said they caught 41 motorists and passengers in just two hours in one area of Norwich.

Casualty reduction officer Michael Edney said: "40% of drivers in Great Yarmouth were caught not wearing their seatbelts and 15% in King's Lynn."

Officers continuing with a car safety campaign say they do not know why there are such differences between areas.

Pc Edney said: "Buckling up can make the difference between life and death.

"The only thing that stops a driver or passenger involved in a crash at 40 or 50mph from flying through the windscreen is a seat belt.

"It's not only the law but good common sense which unfortunately many people are choosing to ignore."
