Improvements to the A27 in West Sussex are still being promised despite their exclusion from government-funded road schemes for the next five years. The Department for Transport announced 15 south-east projects on Thursday that it said it planned to give money to.
West Sussex County Council said it was disappointed that A27 "advance work" was not included.
But the council pledged to get improvements at Chichester, Arundel and Worthing into the next funding round.
'Pressing needs'
"I will be lobbying hard to ensure that the A27 does feature when further advice is given to the government later this year on the period 2011-16," said Lieutenant Colonel Tex Pemberton.
"I want to reassure people that the A27 and its pressing needs have not vanished."
The council wants a bypass at Arundel, as well as improvements to the A27 Chichester bypass and the section of the road between Worthing and Lancing.
A stretch of the A27 between Southerham and Beddingham, near Lewes in East Sussex, was included in the latest funding announcement.
