Brighton's buses inspiring Japan
Japanese government officials have visited Brighton and Hove to look at the city's award-winning bus services.

A minister and researcher were briefed by transport planners from the council and representatives from the Brighton and Hove Bus and Coach Company.

The council said their visitors were finding out how Japanese public transport systems could be improved.

They were interested to learn how Brighton and Hove had seen a 14.2% rise in bus passenger numbers since 2000.

Councillor Craig Turton said: "It is exciting that representatives from the government of Japan, a country renowned for its technological innovation, are interested in what we are doing here."

The council said its strengths included satellite-fed timetable information at bus stops and raised kerbs to improve vehicle access.

The Japanese officials have also made fact-finding visits to Manchester, Nottingham and London.
