Innovations have included "real-time" bus information |
A web service giving public transport information in Brighton has helped the city become the Transport Authority of the Year, the council has revealed. The authority won the industry award on Tuesday after being shortlisted alongside West Sussex, Reading and Nottingham councils.
Cllr Craig Turton said it was also for innovations including the city's "real-time" bus service information.
He said the city's travel website was the first of its kind in Europe.
He said numbers of pedestrians had increased by 10% since 2000, cycling trips had increased by 47.3%, and bus passengers were up by 14.2%.
Mr Turton said car traffic had been reduced by 10.5% and road casualties including deaths and injuries were down by 43%.
He said the award, run by the Centre for Transport based at Aberdeen University, was the biggest transport industry contest in the country.
