Newhaven was recommended as a suitable site for an incinerator |
People living in East Sussex have their final chance on Thursday to comment on proposals for the disposal of waste. It marks the end of a six-week period of public consultation during which several hundred people have voiced their views to local councils.
The plans affect those in areas covered by East Sussex County Council and Brighton and Hove City Council.
Plans for an incinerator in Newhaven have provoked criticism from local residents and environmental groups.

The period of consultation is the latest in a chain of events which began as long ago as 1998, when the first draft plan for dealing with waste was published.
Since then residents in various parts of East Sussex have fought campaigns against plans for incinerators near their homes, with a proposed scheme for Mountfield, near Battle, abandoned in December 2004.
But people living near a landfill site in Pebsham, between Hastings and Bexhill, were disappointed to be told last year it would be staying open until 2008.
A public inquiry into East Sussex County Council's waste plan held last year ended with Newhaven being recommended as a suitable site for an incinerator.
The latest plans indicate final chosen schemes being adopted in the spring of 2006.
