The song "Tom Hark (We Want Falmer)", by Seagulls Ska, a group of Brighton fans, is a re-working of a ska tune.

All profits from the single will go towards the club's efforts to build a new stadium at Falmer, on the outskirts of the city.

The people behind the record said pre-ordered sales were high enough to suggest it would make the top 40.

Support for scheme

Championship side Brighton and Hove Albion have been without a permanent home since the Goldstone Ground closed in 1997.

Brighton played for two years at Gillingham, before returning to the city to hold home games at the Withdean Stadium, an athletics stadium with a 7,000 capacity.

The club wants to build a 22,000-seater ground.

The plans have been opposed by some but have the support of the local council and MPs.

Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott is due to make a decision on whether the scheme can go ahead when the public inquiry re-opens in February.

'Fun idea'

The lyrics of "Tom Hark (We Want Falmer)" have been written by Attila the Stockbroker, the club's poet in residence and a lifelong fan, who also produced the record and sings on it.

The B-side is a ska version of Sussex By The Sea.

Paul Samrah, chairman of the Falmer For All Campaign, said: "This is yet another innovative and fun idea from fans, which underlines the huge imagination and creativity that is behind our relentless campaign.

"Our message though is so very serious, the plight of Sussex's only professional league club is in John Prescott's hands".

Profits will go to the Albion's Alive and Kicking Fund, set up by the club in September, in an attempt to raise �2m to fund the campaign to win approval for the stadium scheme.
