There are four possible sites for casinos in Sheffield. |
A battle to bring a large casino to Sheffield is hotting up with the submission of another detailed planning application to the city council. MGM Mirage, based in Las Vegas, wants to build a 180m complex at the Meadowhall shopping centre which it claims will create 1,500 jobs.
Earlier this month, Sheffield United and Las Vegas Sands Inc put in similar plans for Bramall Lane football ground.
Owlerton and Don Valley stadiums are other possible Sheffield casino sites.
The Meadowhall scheme would be known as MGM Grand, Sheffield.

A public consultation exercise is being launched by MGM Mirage and the owners of Meadowhall, British Land Company.
Exhibitions explaining the plans are being held at the shopping centre and in the centre of Sheffield.
A special website and phone number are available for the public to give their views.
Tim Wells from British Land said: "Sheffield is widely recognised as one of the most vibrant cities in the UK, yet there is much potential to be realised.
"Given the scale of investment in this development and its proximity to local facilities and transport links, this scheme will make a huge contribution to the regeneration of Sheffield."
As well as gaming rooms, the Meadowhall plan features restaurants, a 200-bedroom hotel and an indoor space suitable for sporting events or concerts.
MGM Mirage owns or has investments in 14 casinos in four US states as well as the UK.
Under the British government's new proposed gambling laws, eight "super casinos" would be allowed to be built.
