Westland pay row strike cancelled
Workers building a helicopter at Westland in Yeovil
The design, computing and clerical staff called off their strike
A strike by white-collar workers at Westland Helicopters over a pay dispute has been called off.

About 700 design, computing and clerical staff were due to walk out after rejecting a 6.4% wage increase over two years.

But the strike, by members of the Amicus union, was cancelled at a last-minute meeting on Friday.

Staff had been due to strike on Thursday, but their plans were put back when the company made a revised offer.

The walk-out was put back 24 hours to allow staff to consider the new terms, and after doing so, they voted to go back to work.

Amicus had earlier said Westland Helicopters staff wanted parity with other workers in the aircraft industry, but managers at the company argued that more than 2,000 other staff on the Somerset site had accepted the 6.4% pay deal.
