Westland pay strike is postponed
Workers building a helicopter at Westland in Yeovil
The company's design, computing and clerical staff have voted to strike
A strike by white-collar workers at Westland Helicopters over a pay dispute has been called off until Friday.

About 700 design, computing and clerical staff - all members of the Amicus union - have rejected a 6.4% wage increase over two years.

They voted to take industrial action in a ballot before Christmas, and talks between the parties broke down.

The workers were due to go on strike on Thursday but a last minute deal means the walk-out has been postponed.

Amicus says Westland Helicopters staff want parity with other workers in the aircraft industry, but managers at the company say more than 2,000 other staff on the Somerset site have accepted the deal.
