Wind farm firm battles rejection
Site of the proposed wind farm in Somerset
Planners raised concerns over the safety of the proposed site
Developers hoping to build a wind farm are to appeal against a decision to reject the planning application over fears of a nuclear disaster.

Your Energy proposed installing 12 turbines in West Hinkley, Somerset, supplying electricity to 13,600 homes.

Last month, planners said they were concerned about what would happen if a giant blades broke off so close to the Hinkley Point nuclear reactor.

West Somerset District Council will now hold a public inquiry into the plan.

The inquiry will be convened by the Planning Inspectorate and will hear the case for and against the proposals.

Planning committee chairman, Councillor Viv Brewer, said: "The depth of interest in this application shown by people from all over the country has resulted in thousands of pieces of paper, each of which we now have to copy several times and send off to the right location."
