Ice hockey fans who have been trying to save a Shropshire team have registered a supporters trust to run the club. Telford Tigers had to leave the English Premier League (EPL) when the owners David and Rachel Candlin stepped down in April to pursue other commitments. Mike Dixon, from a campaign to save the team, said an application to create The Telford Tigers Society Ltd was approved by the Financial Services Authority. Tigers said an application to return to the EPL was due to go to the league. 'Next step' The club has missed out on the current season, which started in September. But Telford Tigers said it was led to believe the team's application to return to the league would be "warmly received". It added the application was due to go to the league at a meeting in April. Telford Tigers said that would remain the name for the team on the ice. Annual subscription But it added The Telford Tigers Society Ltd was the registered name of the trust, which would trade as Tiger Tracks - the supporters group that owns the club. Mr Dixon, who has co-ordinated the campaign to save the team, said: "The next step is to fix a date for the Tiger Tracks trust launch party, which we hope to be able to announce very soon. "This event will give everyone who wants to see Tigers back in the EPL next season an opportunity to get involved - as a member of the trust, volunteering as a club officer or signing up as a sponsor." People pay an annual subscription to be a member of the trust, Telford Tigers said.
