Falling pupil numbers means some schools could close |
Church officials have organised a meeting in Shropshire to discuss sweeping changes planned for dozens of primary schools. The head teachers' meeting will take place at Rushbury Village Hall on Tuesday at 1630 GMT.
Shropshire County Council is reviewing primary schools and a number could be closed because of funding pressures.
The Diocese of Hereford said it wanted to make a "robust" response to the authority's proposals.
'Fewer children'
There are 42 aided or controlled church schools in south Shropshire.
Chairs of governors and local clergy will also attend the meeting.
Ian Terry, director of education for the Hereford Diocese, said: "There's already a lot of concern about the proposals from the Shropshire authority.
"We take our responsibility for primary education in Shropshire very seriously and believe it's important to make a robust and realistic response to the local authority's proposals.
By 2012 it is estimated there will be nearly 3,500 fewer children in Shropshire's 141 primary schools than there were in 2001.
Education chiefs said they must review how schools are organised, as declining numbers mean less government funds.
