Celebrations are due to start next month in Shropshire to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of the civil engineer Thomas Telford. He left a legacy of roads, canals, bridges and churches throughout the country.
A year of events is planned, starting with a concert at Abraham Darby School, Madeley, Telford, on 20 January.
Another highlight is a Thomas Telford themed civic service at St Michael's Church, Madeley, on 22 July.
