Plans to merge schools approved
Plans to merge two Shropshire primary schools into a purpose-built site have been approved by the county council.

A meeting was held on Tuesday over plans for Grafton Primary and Bicton Church of England school.

Under the proposals Grafton Primary, which has fewer than 30 pupils, would close in 2006 and merge with Bicton at a new 1.3m site housing 133 pupils.

The County Council officers said the buildings of both primary schools were unsuitable for 21st century.

The new school will have five class bases, its own playing field, and parking for staff and visitors.

There would be free transport for pupils travelling from Grafton to the new school in Bicton.

The proposals are to be considered by the Shropshire School Organisation Committee, an independent body, possibly in September.
