New director at debt-ridden trust
The debt-ridden trust in charge of Shropshire's two main hospitals has a new interim finance director.

Steve Shanahan was appointed to the position at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust on 1 August.

Mr Shanahan, who has mostly worked in the private sector, replaces Martin Herd, who resigned in July to "develop his career elsewhere".

The trust, which is 19m in debt, may not break even this year, a recent auditor's report by KPMG said.

Mr Shanahan has worked as a consultant for global businesses for the past five years.

He said that there is much to be done to return the trust to financial stability, but he is looking forward to the challenge.

The trust was formed in 2003 with the merger of the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
