Fraud warning to Bucks supporters
Fraudsters are trying to cash in on Telford United's financial crisis, according to the football club's independent supporters' association.

Spokesman Lee Carter said he has heard three reports of attempts to con 500 from local businesses on the pretext of the money being a donation to the club.

The Bucks, who are losing about 16,000 a week, were saved from liquidation in a last-minute deal on Friday.

West Mercia Police said they had not received any complaints.

A force spokeswoman said the independent supporters' association had contacted police to inform officers of its intention to raise money for the club.

Mr Carter said people should be careful to whom they give money. He said the supporters' association has a fighting fund of about 20,000.

He has assured potential donors their money will be used only to the meet the urgent needs of the football club.

Meanwhile, MP for Telford David Wright is due to meet a treasury minister on Tuesday where he is expected to suggest that football fans should have a bigger say in the running of their clubs.
