Boris Johnson's father has thrown his hat into the ring as a possible successor to his son as MP for Henley. Stanley Johnson said it would be "superb" to represent the constituency in Oxfordshire. His son confirmed he will step down as the town's MP after winning the race to become London Mayor last week. His father is no stranger to the political world, having stood unsuccessfully for a seat in Devon in 2005 and serving as an MEP. Talking about running as a candidate for Henley he said: "That would be the most tremendous honour, I cannot at this time think of anything I would more like to do. "To be an MP for somewhere like Henley would be superb." Following his election as Mayor of London, Boris Johnson said he would talk to Conservative officials to arrange for his departure from the House of Commons. His resignation will spark a by-election in one of the Tory's safest seats, which he has held since 2001.
