Hospital's 'clean hands' advice

Patients should check staff have washed their hands
Patients, staff and visitors are being encouraged to keep their hands scrubbed clean by a hospital recently commended for its hygiene in the House of Lords.

Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals Trust is to run roadshows on all four of its sites to raise awareness about cleanliness issues from 7 February.

The move is in line with the government's on-going hospital hygiene campaign, launched in 2001.

The trust said it takes infection control and cleanliness very seriously.

Peer Baroness Murphy praised the trust for its "efforts against antibiotic resistant bacteria" during a House of Lords debate on hospital acquired infections.

The National Audit Office estimates so-called superbugs like MRSA kill as many as 5,000 people each year.

The Department of Health has said it is keen for everyone to take responsibility for MRSA.
