Oxford Radcliffe Hospital Trust has reduced its amount of MRSA cases |
An NHS trust has been praised by a health watchdog for its hygiene crackdown which has reduced the number of MRSA cases on its wards. The Oxford Radcliffe Hospital Trust says it has been classed as one of the Health Protection Agency's "top 10 improvers" in cutting MRSA rates.
It comes after figures showed there were 94 cases from April 2004 to March 2005 - down from 127 the previous year.
The trust runs John Radcliffe, Horton, the Churchill and Radcliffe Infirmary.
Cleanliness standards
Julie Hartley-Jones, chief nurse and director of infection prevention and control, said: "This is encouraging news and a credit to all our staff, including our infection control team, who work extremely hard to tackle a wide range of hospital infections.
"I hope that it offers reassurance to our patients and their families too."
In February, the trust staged a number of events as part of a Think Clean Month, including a public meeting to discuss controlling the spread of infection in its four hospitals.
Last December, a government report named the Radcliffe Infirmary was one of 24 hospitals with "poor" cleanliness standards.
