Members of the public are being asked to tip-off the police about people they suspect are drink-drivers this summer. Posters depicting the graves of people who have been killed by motorists who flout the law will also be circulated in Oxfordshire and Berkshire.
In a bid to cut down on the number of alcohol-related accidents, road policing officers will be targeting offenders in June and July.
Last year, 22 people died as a result of drink-driving in Thames Valley.
'Driving erratically'
The move follows research carried out by Thames Valley Police, which revealed June has one of the highest alcohol-related collision rates with an average of 52 crashes throughout the month.
Superintendent Neil Olney, head of roads policing, said: "Drink-driving is a problem we deal with all year round - arresting on average 17 people per day.
"During the summer, the pub gardens are popular and some people may be tempted to push the limit.
"However, we test drivers at collision sites as a matter of course and we will always stop people who are driving erratically and act on information we receive about drink-drivers.
"It is not worth the risk to yourself and others to drink and drive."
The posters, designed by a 13-year-old girl at Woodley Youth Club following a poster competition, are being distributed to pubs, off-licences and other public places to drive the message home.
Drivers found to be over the legal limit in the UK face a minimum one year driving ban, a fine of up to 5,000 and a possible six months in prison.
