Cricket ground turf goes hi-tech

Trent Bridge
Renovation to the ground's outfield has started

Work has started on installing a 600,000 turf surface and drainage system at Nottinghamshire's Trent Bridge cricket ground.

The work has been funded by a grant from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

The ground has also just undergone an 8.2m revamp, including the building of a new stand and floodlights.

The club said the new irrigation system will help to keep delays through rain to a minimum.

Computer control

Work has started to remove the existing turf and this will be replaced in January with custom-grown grass.

The existing soil on the outfield will be improved with the addition of sand before the new turf is laid.

The new state-of-the-art irrigation and sprinkler system will be controlled remotely by computer.

Chief executive Derek Brewer said: "We are delighted to be undertaking this work to further enhance our playing facilities.

"After the completion of the new stand and the installation of our permanent floodlights and replay screen, this project is a logical progression."
