A 10m refurbishment of 25 East Midlands trains is getting under way. The Class 158 trains - which are two-car diesel vehicles - will all be repainted in East Midlands Trains' livery and fitted with CCTV cameras. East Midlands Trains' project manager Chris Elliott said work to improve air conditioning, seating and new toilets would be carried out. Services run from London to Sheffield, in the East Midlands, and to Norwich Manchester and Liverpool, among others. Mr Elliott said the refurbishment would make journeys on the company's fleet much more comfortable. "The current trains that are running are actually very tired in their interiors," he said. "This will bring a much better ambience to the trains and a much better feel for our customers." A new passenger counting device is also being introduced to help monitor passenger flows.
