Upgrade on track gets under way

Replacement buses will be laid on for train passengers

A six-week project which will see more than �50m being spent on upgrading the track and signals at Lincoln railway station has started.

The upgrade work means the line through Lincoln will be closed from Saturday.

A special timetable of replacement buses is being implemented for passengers instead.

Debbie Mather, from East Midlands Trains, said that despite the disruption passengers would ultimately benefit from the work.

She said: "It's �55m that they're spending on upgrading the system and the great thing about this is that obviously to improve the railway you do have to invest in it.

"The investment is there, the work's going to be carried out, and once that work's been carried out we hope we will see improvements in reliability and punctuality for trains."
