Hotline targets nuisance bikers
A hotline is being set up to let people shop nuisance motorcyclists.

The Mansfield scheme will run for the next month and information will be used to help police identify problem areas.

Mansfield District Council, which is launching the phone line, warns it will block off motorcycle access to the worst-affected areas.

Insp Dave Shardlow said: "The information gained will be extremely valuable to us in tackling the problems within our resources."

True picture

The council said there were hundreds of instances each year of motorbikes being driven illegally off-road, in parks, on pavements and by under-age riders in the area.

Police can bring illegal bikers before the courts and even confiscate motorbikes if they are deemed to being used illegally or anti-socially.

Councillor Andre Camilleri said: "We want people to phone or e-mail a report every time they see a motorbike, quad bike or scooter being driven illegally.

"This will help us to get a true picture of when, where and how often the problem is affecting people."

Problems can be reported on 01623 463105 or [email protected]
