A Clough statue already stands at City Ground |
Fans of football icon Brian Clough want to build a statue in his honour in Nottingham city centre. Supporters want to set up a fund with the support of Nottingham City Council to raise about 60,000 for the project.
They said they are open to suggestions on fundraising ideas, the type of statue and its location.
At the same time it has been announced the A52 between Derby and Nottingham could be renamed in Clough's memory within the next four weeks.
Fitting tribute
Organiser Mike Simpson said: "People will come from around the country to visit Nottingham so it needs to be in a real focal point."
Middlesbrough has already collected 15,000 for a Clough statue with a sponsored walk and a collection at the ground as well as a sports forum.
Sarah Clarke, of brianclough.com, said: "A statue of Brian Clough would be a permanent tribute from the people of Nottinghamshire to a man who achieved so much and put the city and county on the map."
It is also expected that the A52 together with a bridge across the carriageway could be named the Brian Cough Way within the next month.
Cup glory
Everything is in place for the renaming to take place.
Organisers are just waiting for confirmation from Mr Clough's family before the move can be agreed.
Clough, who played for Middlesbrough and managed Derby County and Nottingham Forest to League Cup wins in the 1970s and early 1980s, died in September 2004 from cancer.
He won two European Cups with Nottingham Forest in 1979 and 1980.
Clough also won two England caps and scored 251 goals in 274 games as a striker for Middlesbrough and Sunderland.
