Fans to commemorate Cloughie

Derby County and Nottingham Forest fans will gather at Pride Park for a memorial service to celebrate the life of Brian Clough.

The remarkable life of Brian Clough will be celebrated in a huge memorial service at Pride Park stadium.

The event, which takes place on Thursday, 21st October, will see Rams fans and Forest fans sit side by side to honour the memory of a man who led both teams to glory.

The decision to move the service from Derby Cathedral was made in response to massive demand for tickets.

Canon Elaine Jones and Canon Nicholas Henshall from Derby Cathedral will lead the service with musical accompaniment from the Cathedral Choir.

Canon Nicholas Henshall said: "As soon as we announced the memorial service it became clear that there was going to be an overwhelming response. This is a wonderful comment about Brian's achievement in the region."

Derby County chairman John Sleightholme said: "We are working with the staff of the Cathedral and Brian's family to ensure the service is a fitting tribute to a man whose footballing achievements were truly remarkable."

The service starts at 7.30pm and runs for roughly an hour and 15 minutes. It includes speeches from Geoff Boycott, Martin O'Neill and World Cup referee Clive Thomas.

Buses will be laid on to ferry people to the service, leaving from Corporation Street every five minutes from 6pm - 7pm.

How to get tickets

Members of the public who have already received tickets for the Cathedral service will be issued with replacements and those who have sent stamped addressed envelopes to Derby Cathedral will receive their tickets in the post.

Tickets for the service will be available on Thursday, 14th October and Friday 15th October from 10am - 4pm at Pride Park Stadium's ticket collection point, Derby's Council House, Derby Cathedral and Nottingham's City Council House.

No tickets are available on Saturday and from Sunday, 17th October tickets can be collected from Pride Park Stadium only.

Postal applications should be made by sending a stamped addressed envelope to: Brian Clough Memorial Service, Derby County, Pride Park Stadium, Derby, DE24 8XL to arrive no later than Monday, 18th October.

Telephone requests for tickets cannot be accepted at any ticket location.

He is our local hero too - a fantastic character, sadly missed by the footballing world and may he now rest in peace.

Brian Clough was a legend and should have been honoured with a knighthood!

I'm from glasgow and have never even been to nottingham or derby but i feel it's a disgrace that cloughie was never knighted!! in an era when it seems that anyone is given honours it amazes me that someone who took 2 provincial teams to domestic success not lest european success has not been knighted. It just shows you that you seem to get more from the system if you are submissive and not outspoken, but that attitude will never really win over the ordinary people the way cloughie has.

Brian Clough was the best manager of his time. He should have been England Manager then. Lets honour a real legend of football and award him a Knighthood.

Instead of renaming the A52, why not rename Notting East Midlands Airport the Brian Clough International Airport. A fitting memorial for a man who took the region places!
Rob Rowlands

It was like losing a close relative. Having grown up in the seventies and early eighties, everything was Cloughie.

We remember all he did for Derby in the 70's.having worked at the old Baseball ground then. Always a topic of conversation and an icon that will be always remembered. Vancouver Canada
