Police start anti-drink campaign
Police in Nottinghamshire are launching a crackdown on underage drinking as pupils prepare to return to school after the summer holidays.

The joint operation between police and Trading Standards will also tackle off-licences serving underage drinkers.

The operation will take place on Friday evenings, which is said to be the most popular time for underage drinking.

Officers will patrol open spaces and parkland at various locations across the Gedling and Broxtowe boroughs.

'Very drunk'

They will stop and speak to young people and will confiscate any alcohol.

Youngsters could have their details recorded and be taken back to their parents.

Paul Horton, licensing officer for the police, said: "Recently, officers were called to an incident where a thirteen-year-old girl was in a park, very drunk, alone and vulnerable.

"Thankfully officers were on hand to take her home to her parents."

Trading Standards will conduct test purchase operations at premises where allegations have been made that alcohol is being served to under-18s.
