Shops fined for under-age sales
Three Nottingham shopkeepers have been fined for selling alcohol to underage customers in a sting set up by trading standards officers.

The service sent 14-year-olds to try to buy alcohol at premises in the city.

More than 30 off-licences were visited during the initiative. Three shopkeepers were fined up to 300 after admitting breaking licensing laws.

Trading standards bosses said three other shopkeepers are also due before city magistrates shortly.

Caraline Ryan, Nottingham trading standards manager, said: "It is a very serious matter selling drinks to children, as licensees very well know.

"We make them aware of the rules, and the recognised forms of ID, such as photocards, driving licences and the Connexions cards that are issued free to all 16 to 19-year-olds."
