Drugs arrests after public calls
Calls to Crimestoppers have dramatically increased following the launch of a campaign to get the public phoning in with tip-offs, police say.

The Rat on a Rat campaign in Notts was extended to Eastwood on 13 September. It urges people to call the anonymous Crimestoppers to report drug crime.

The information received led to arrests for drugs and firearms offences.

Notts Police have been using the tactic across the county with neighbouring Derbyshire copying the formula.

A 26-year-old man was arrested during a raid for possession and cultivation of cannabis at one address, and a 23-year-old man was arrested for failing to appear at court on burglary charges.

During a second raid a firearm, machetes, swords, knifes and bayonets from an Eastwood address on 24 September. A man has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Sarah Smithhurst, Crimestoppers co-ordinator said: "The call rate has increased dramatically, we used to receive two calls a month from the Eastwood area about drug activity. Now that number has risen to 10 calls in 14 days."
