Extra protection for city buses
An NCT bus
Buses and drivers have been attacked
Vandals who attack buses in Nottingham risk being automatically charged without a police caution.

It is part of a big operation to improve the safety of passengers and drivers in the Clifton area.

From Wednesday three bus services in Clifton will be running to their full daytime and evening timetables after being suspended due to vandalism.

The buses will be protected by newly installed CCTV and extra marked and unmarked police patrols.

Situation monitored

The patrols will run after 1700 GMT, concentrating on Nobel Road and Hartness Road.

Barrie Burch, from Nottingham City Transport, (NCT) said: "There will be police in both unmarked and marked cars in this area and also on Clifton Lane.

"They are to stop these thugs picking on our vehicles and particularly on my staff."

He added that progress has been made to deter the vandals in Clifton but NCT cannot rule out more service alterations if the problems return.
