Fears over bus drivers' safety
Ramzan Malik
Ramzan Malik has been attacked three times in five years of driving

A bus operator is introducing better protection of its drivers following a number of attacks by passengers.

Thick see-through plastic shields are being installed on Nottingham buses because of worries over driver safety.

In a recent attack, Ramzan Malik was beaten after he would not allow three youths on his number 77 bus in Apsley Way because they had a forged ticket.

The gang spat at Mr Malik and punched him in the face before throwing a brick through the window.

Ramzan was treated at Queen's Medical Centre and has been left very shaken.

He said the attacks are commonplace and it was the third time he had been targeted in five years of driving buses.

Police are investigating the attack while Nottingham City Transport, which runs the route, is installing the plastic screens.
