Assurances offered over tram cables
A Tram
The system will open to the public at the end of 2003
The power lines for Nottingham's new tram network are going up across the city from Sunday.

Poles and brackets will carry the cables between Hyson Green, Basford and the city centre.

The first trams should be making test runs during the first week in July.

Stephen Barker from Nottingham Express Transit thinks the power cables will not be quite as unsightly as those on Nottingham's last tram system in the 1930s.

He said: "It is essential the cables are where they are because its the physics of the geometry of hanging the power cables properly.

"A lot of work has gone into making sure the system has good design aesthetics in itself and it has got to fit in with the areas it is running through.

"Before too long it will be up and people will be able to see it for themselves."
